In a ground breaking move by World Rugby, the highly regarded and supported Cape Town Sevens has been awarded a five year contract to host the South African leg of the World Seven’s Series.
Not only that, there will also be a women’s tournament to run alongside it, making Cape Town the sixth leg of the series to host a dual tournament with Hong Kong, Sydney, Paris, Dubai and Hamilton.
Zintle Mpupha, the Springbok Women’s Captian said:
“We’ve all dreamed about playing at home one day, so this is really a dream come true for us. We can’t wait to play in front of our own people in Cape Town.”
Sevens rugby is growing quickly and last year alone, 750,000 people attended events across the globe.
