We encourage the players to make the most of the competition by showcasing their talent through this incredible platform. Over the years, this tournament has been an important stepping stone for South Africa’s rugby talent, and we would like to wish all participating universities the best of luck for the 2019 season.”
Adolf Fourie of Steers said, “We are so excited for the 12th season of the FNB Varsity Cup, and we feel privileged that we can be a part of this innovative and life-changing tournament. At Steers we are all about flaming-hot action and there’s no hotter action than the FNB Varsity Cup.”
FNB Varsity Cup marketing manager Vuyolwethu Gabelana is excited about FNB Varsity Cup’s epic and unique features which are sure to blow the spectators away.
“What’s just as amazing as the rugby on the field, is the incredible action that happens off the field. Whether it’s building your own giant burger, to figuring out a mystery word; our in-stadium activations have something for everybody. Our partners, FNB and Steers have some rad activations like the FNB Scramble, these are tailored for fans that rock.
“So, when you are in the crowd make sure to make yourself visible to your MC and mascot in order to stand a chance to win some awesome prizes.
“And, back through popular demand, every university will be able to put forward their own Miss Varsity Cup and Miss Varsity Shield contestant, which a feature we are so proud to reinstall.”
FNB Varsity Cup 2018 Activations
Steri Stumpie Photobooth: Oversized props will be found in the Steri Stumpie photo booths where spectators can take photos and post on social media and will be encouraged to use the hashtags #RugbyThatRocks and #milkthemoment.
FNB T-Shirt Scramble: At each televised match, promoters will hand out shirts at the gates at the start of game to incoming spectators. Each of these t-shirts will carry a letter on it and possibly a t-shirt carry an exclamation mark. The crowd members will then be given a hint of a word to spell, with other members of the crowd. If the spectators get the word, they win prizes from FNB.
FNB Kruger Rand Coin Toss: An hour before kick-off at all televised matches, the FNB Kruger Rand coin toss will take place with both captains. The coin toss will take place ahead of the coach’s interview. The coin toss will be conducted by the match referee.
Steers Build-a-Burger: The MC will select the two participating teams from the crowd who have best dressed according to the twinning whacky theme, in the name of Whacky Wednesday. One set of giant burger building blocks are laid out on field, with each team getting a chance to compete to see which team can build the burger the quickest by running, collecting pieces, and the building burger. The goal is to try beat the clock and the burger within 15 seconds or less! The winning team wins Steers vouchers to the value of R200.
The return of Miss Varsity Cup
In the 12th instalment of FNB Varsity Cup, we see the return of the Miss Varsity Cup competition. All the participating universities in FNB Varsity Cup and FNB Varsity Shield can put forward a Miss FNB Varsity Cup and Miss Varsity Shield contestant.

At the end of the elimination round, each campus will have their own Miss Varsity Cup or Miss Varsity Shield who will then, in the 11th week, travel to the judging ceremony, where an overall winner will be selected.
Miss Varsity Cup places great emphasis on participants’ academic performance, involvement with their local community, the FNB Varsity Cup CSI project and galvanizing support for their team. the competition plays a vital role in not only tapping into the lifestyle side of the FNB Varsity Cup brand, but the importance of the empowerment of women, social involvement in communities
